My First Ever Outfit Post!

Necklace: Vintage, Bracelet: Purchased in China, Sunglasses: Ross

Folks, I'm giving in!  Many friends have told me I should blog my outfits sometimes and I've caved.  Don't get me wrong, I love fashion.  I adore putting outfits together and don't like repeating outfits if at all possible.  After about three and a half months of work at my new job, one of my coworkers told me that I finally repeated an outfit.  Without telling me, she had been keeping track of what I wore.  (PS.  She was wrong.  The shirt I was wearing that day was one I had just received at a clothing exchange so there's no way she had seen it before)  I don't have a huge wardrobe, I just love mixing up what I pair with what.

The Portland Blogger's event on Sunday inspired me as well.  It was so fun to be in a group of women who are fashion blogger, do outfit posts, are great photographers, love styling themselves and others, or, like me, just love making themselves look cute.  I felt like this was something I could love.

Now for the flip side - why I haven't really wanted to do blog about outfits.  Firstly, even though I'm confident in the way I look, I don't feel like I fit the part of an outfit blogger.  They're all gorgeous, skinny, perfectly proportioned things.  (Ok, they're not all that way, I just feel like they are)  Whitney confessed she was having the same problem and decided to step out and just do it and she inspired me to do the same.  Secondly, I'm queen of frugal shopping.  This entire outfit totaled thirty-six dollars out of pocket for me.  Yes, that's including all the jewelry, the shoes, my sunglasses, and everything else.  I don't get much that's not clearance priced or from secondhand stores.  Because of this, I don't feel as fabulous as the girls who are spending hundreds of dollars on each and every outfit.  I personally feel as though there's no need to spend a lot of money on clothes.  I feel as though I am not using my money right when I am buying clothes that are expensive.  (No, I'm not judging you if that's what you do, it's a personal conviction for me)  Besides feeling that way, I'm also a Seminary student wife and will be a pastor's wife.  The hubby and I are never going to have tons of money and we're totally ok with that.  Why spend the money we do have on clothes?

What's the takeaway from all this?  I've decided my outfit posts are going to include the way I purchase/inherit my clothing items.  Hopefully, it will inspire others to think outside the box and save money while looking fabulous.  Having a limited budget doesn't mean you have to settle when it comes to fashion.

  3. I love your outfit!!! Cheap clothes are the best, aren't they?! I love finding deals at thrift shops and clearance racks and stuff. I barely ever pay full price for anything, except at Forever 21 because their clothes are already cheap and fit me better than anywhere else. ;)

  5. I'm a total clearance shopper and hardly ever buy full-price clothes so I really appreciate bloggers who show me how to put inexpensive outfits together. Those others are nice to look at, but that's about where it ends for me. Especially now with a baby. I don't think I'd feel comfortable wearing hundreds of dollars worth of clothes for him to puke on ;-)

  10. I totally feel weird whenever I do an outfit post (which is pretty rare). But you look great.

I need to do better with only buying wardrobe staples. I subscribe to so many stores' emails that I get sucked into sales.

  11. I'm so glad you're doing this. I completely agree - too many fashion blogs/posts highlight ONLY the thinnest and most expensive women and clothing. I love this outfit, especially the tights :)

  12. Good for you! I've thought about the same thing, but don't think I'll ever actually do it.

  15. I LOVE this outfit! And I absolutely love reading posts about creating great looking outfits for less. I don't like to spend a lot on clothes either (or at all haha). I tend to keep clothes forever, because even if I don't love wearing them on their own after awhile, I can always layer them and make them look good again. Excited to see more of these!

  16. Woohooo, congrats on your first outfit post!! The great thing about blogging is that seriously MOST bloggers are NOT model-skinny, so it's great to see people of all shapes and heights and looks showing off their style. And showing frugal style is great, too. The only outfit posts I do feature a DIY item, since my blog is about sewing and DIYing, but there are tons of frugal fashion blogs out there, too! Not all the high fashion ones. So you'll find good company!

I think it's really cool to have photos of myself being stylish now, so I can look back and remember what made me feel good! (Especially since I've trained my husband to take good pictures of me now, haha... ;) )

  17. That is a great idea! I think you'd really like Team Tuttle's blog. She is so cute and does great things on like...NO money. She was a law-student's wife (he has graduated since then.) http://meredithtuttle.blogspot.com/

And, as usual, you look lovely!

  20. Great post! I was really nervous doing my first outfit post, too because I feel the same way about comparing myself to other bloggers. I try not to spend a lot of money on clothes and I don't buy designers and that's OK. I am trying to be more adventurous in terms of mixing and matching... I think it's amazing that in 3 months, you haven't repeated an outfit. Plus, I can't believe you only had to spend $36 on that outfit! Amazing!

  24. I definitely agree. Outfits are what you make of them. There'll always be bloggers who spend their paycheks adoring their bodies with enviable clothing, maybe as a blogger, you might feel pressured to do the same, but ultimately, the decision is yours.

  30. Hurray for beginning an outfit post series! I also love your idea of not spending that much on clothes. I rarely buy something for me from a thrift store, mainly because, at least where I live, thrift stores don't seem to carry clothes in my size! But I do collect most of my wardrobe in slightly unlikely ways, so I like the idea of you telling about how/where you found interesting pieces!

(And I love your purple and green together!)
